France II

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The French ship France II was an extremely large tall ship. It had a length of 146 meters (479 feet). The vessel had some wooden components, including wooden decks, but it had a steel hull. It had 5 masts. It was built in 1911 at the Gironde yards in Bordeaux, and went aground in New Caledonia 1922. In 1944, American bombers bombed the wreckage. There are currently plans to build a replica of the France II.
