François Fillon

François Fillon (born March 4, 1954 in Le Mans, Sarthe) is a French politician. He is a member of the UMP party. He became Minister of Labour under Jean-Pierre Raffarin's government in 2002 and undertook difficult reforms of the 35-hour workweek law and of the french retirement system. He became Minister of Higher education and research in 2004 but, in 2005, was not included in the new government headed by Dominique de Villepin. The same year, he was elected senator of Sarthe. He is a political advisor to Nicolas Sarkozy.
