[edit] Summary
Description:
Representation of the motion of the bob of a Foucault pendulum, for a Foucault pendulum located at 30 degrees latituded. This animation is designed to be used together with the animation Image:Wheatstone_pendulum_256x256.png
For emphasis, the amplitude of the vibration has been very much exaggerated.
The ratio of vibration to rotation is 12 to 1.
The perspective is from straight above. When the bob is vibrating in radial direction the amplitude appears smaller than when the bob is vibrating in tangential direction. This appeareance is due to the perspective; the actual amplitude of the vibration is constant.
Images generated with POV-ray ray-tracing software.
