The Foundation for Religious Tolerance of Florida was a short-lived Scientology front organization that ostensibly promoted the idea that all religions should be tolerated and treated equally.
The organization was related to Scientology's Foundation for Religious Freedom and the Foundation for Religious Tolerance in California and started its activities in 2000, was officially incorporated on 01/25/2001 and was headed by Mary De Moss, Paris Morfopoulos and Richard Hirst. [1][2] It was dissolved on 10/04/2002 for failing to file an annual report.
In 2000, the Church of Scientology used the Foundation for Religious Tolerance to disrupt the shooting of 'The Profit, a film by Peter N. Alexander and Patricia Greenway that was a thinly veiled attack on L. Ron Hubbard, Dianetics, and Scientology. [3] As of 2006 the film is still tied up in litigation with Scientology. [4]
Even though their informational material said they were a non-denominational organization (and tax exempt), they admitted to being a Scientologist organization in court, during an injunction hearing in which they also used Scientology's primary attorneys, Moxon & Kobrin. [5]
