Forrest J Ackerman in his costume (left), which he wore to the very first World Science Fiction Convention in 1939, sparking "costuming" or dressing up as a character at sci-fi, horror, anime and comic conventions. Myrtle R. Douglas (known as Morojo, right), his girlfriend at the time, created the costume for him to his specification, but did not attend.
