Forterra Systems

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Forterra Systems Inc. is the company that created the MMOG There.

Originally founded in 1998 as There, Inc., Forterra Systems Inc. builds distributed virtual world technology and turnkey applications for the defense, homeland security, medical, corporate training, and entertainment industries. Using the OLIVE™ (On-Line Interactive Virtual Environment) Technology Platform and industry standard PC hardware, customers can rapidly generate realistic three-dimensional virtual environments that easily scale from single user applications to large scale simulated environments supporting many thousands of concurrent users. Forterra’s technology and services enable organizations to train, plan, rehearse, and collaborate in ways previously considered impossible or impractical.

There is based on technology shared with a project that was developed for the US Army, originally a client of There, Inc. and now a client of Forterra Systems. The There service was spun off to Makena Technologies in 2005. It's operations remained uninterrupted during the various corporate changes. Since then, two additional instances of There have been created, both owned and administrated by Makena Technologies.
