Forest of Argonne

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Forest of Argonne forms a long strip of rocky mountain and wild woodland in north-eastern France.

In 1792 Charles François Dumouriez outmanoeuvered the invading forces of the Duke of Brunswick in the forest prior to the Battle of Valmy.

Colonel Nelson Miles Holderman received the Medal of Honor for actions in October of 1918 in the forest, as did Major Charles White Whittlesey.
