Ford F-4EAT transmission
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The F-4EAT was a 4-speed computerized, electronically controlled automatic transmission produced by Ford Motor Company. It was also called the F4A-EL by Mazda and Kia.
It was developed mainly for the Ford Escort and Mercury Tracer but was also used in the Ford Focus, Mazda Protege and Kia Sephia. It's Ford's 3-speed ATX that was used in the 1980's and early 1990's, mainly the Ford Tempo and Mercury Topaz with the exception that it's controlled by electronic solenoids instead of hydraulics and now has a 4th-speed overdrive. Escorts and Tracers with this transmission have an E printed on the manufactured sticker of the drivers door jamb.
