Force is a fictional character in the Marvel Universe. Clayton Wilson was a graduate student at Empire State University working as a research assistant to a scientist (Damon Walters) who had developed a prototype device for creating a protective force field. Wilson stole the prototype and made a battlesuit that incorporated the generator, and dubbed himself Force.

He first attacked Namor the Sub-Mariner when the Prince came to speak to Walters to acquire his force field technology. Namor defeated him and Force was unable to prevent him from gaining help from Walters.

Force was later employed by Justin Hammer to work as a mercenary, in exchange for providing improvements to his battlesuit. Force attacked Anthony Stark's yacht, but Stark (as Iron Man) was able to defeat Force's men. Force escaped with the yacht, and several prisoners including Bethany Cabe. Iron Man was able to track Force down and defeat him, freeing the prisoners.

Eventually, Force grew tired and disgusted with harming other people, and told Hammer so. Hammer tampered with Force's armor that would prevent him from communicating, and electrocute him if he tried to remove the armor. Force sought help from Iron Man, who freed him from the battlesuit. Stark insisted that Wilson turn himself into the police, and Wilson agreed. Justin Hammer sent the Beetle, Blacklash, and Blizzard II to kill Wilson. Iron Man, Jim Rhodes, and Force fought the three mercenaries off. Stark told the authorities that Wilson had been killed in the fight, so that Hammer would no longer pursue him; meanwhile, Stark set Wilson up with a new identity and employment with a subsidiary of Stark Industries.
