"For Martha" is an epic and highly acclaimed song by the Smashing Pumpkins, which appeared on their fourth studio album Adore. It is the 14th track on the album and the longest, running a total of 8 minutes and 17 seconds.
The song was written by Billy Corgan and is said to be about Corgan's mother, who died before the recording of the album. "For Martha" is also notable as being one of the tracks on Adore (along with "Crestfallen" and "Annie-Dog") that features piano as a dominant instrument, contrasting with the Smashing Pumpkins' earlier work, which was much more guitar based. The riff from "For Martha" was originally created in the Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness era.
It is the only song on Adore to feature Matt Cameron's drumming, despite contributing his drumming on seven tracks considered for Adore.
