Folsom, New Jersey

Folsom is a borough in Atlantic County, New Jersey, United States. As of the United States 2000 Census, the borough population was 1,972.
Folsom was incorporated as a borough by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature on May 23, 1906, from portions of Buena Vista Township.[1]

Folsom is located at GR1.
(39.592363, -74.847887)According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 21.9 km² (8.5 mi²). 21.4 km² (8.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.5 km² (0.2 mi²) of it (2.25%) is water.

As of the censusGR2 of 2000, there are 1,972 people, 671 households, and 552 families residing in the borough. The population density is 92.1/km² (238.5/mi²). There are 702 housing units at an average density of 32.8/km² (84.9/mi²). The racial makeup of the borough is 91.73% White, 4.41% African American, 0.15% Native American, 0.86% Asian, 0.15% Pacific Islander, 1.57% from other races, and 1.12% from two or more races. 3.45% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There are 671 households out of which 37.1% have children under the age of 18 living with them, 64.4% are married couples living together, 14.2% have a female householder with no husband present, and 17.7% are non-families. 13.7% of all households are made up of individuals and 3.9% have someone living alone who is 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.93 and the average family size is 3.18.
In the borough the population is spread out with 24.9% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 30.0% from 25 to 44, 26.5% from 45 to 64, and 9.8% who are 65 years of age or older. The median age is 38 years. For every 100 females there are 96.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there are 92.6 males.
The median income for a household in the borough is $56,406, and the median income for a family is $59,231. Males have a median income of $39,659 versus $30,000 for females. The per capita income for the borough is $20,617. 5.7% of the population and 4.2% of families are below the poverty line. Out of the total population, 4.3% of those under the age of 18 and 4.9% of those 65 and older are living below the poverty line.

[edit] Federal, state and county representation
Folsom is in the Second Congressional District and is part of New Jersey's 9th Legislative District.[4]
New Jersey's Second Congressional District, covering all of Atlantic County, Cape May County, Cumberland County and Salem County and portions of Burlington County, Camden County and Gloucester County, is represented by Frank LoBiondo (R, Vineland). New Jersey is represented in the Senate by Frank Lautenberg (D, Cliffside Park) and Bob Menendez (D, Hoboken).
The 9th legislative district of the New Jersey Legislature is represented in the State Senate by Leonard T. Connors (R, Forked River) and in the Assembly by Christopher J. Connors (R, Forked River) and Brian E. Rumpf (R, Forked River). The Governor of New Jersey is Jon Corzine (D, Hoboken).
Atlantic County's County Executive is Dennis Levinson. The executive, along with the Board of Chosen Freeholders, administers all county business. Atlantic County's Freeholders are Francis Sutton, James Curcio, Frank Finnerty (Freeholder Vice Chairman), Alisa Cooper, Joe Kelly, Rev. Lawton Nelson, Thomas Russo, Sue Schilling and Joseph F. Silipena (Freeholder Chairman).

Students in Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade, students attend the Folsom School, which serves a total of 342 students, as part of the Folsom Borough School District.
For grades 9 - 12, students attend Hammonton High School, in Hammonton as part of a sending/receiving relationship with the Hammonton Public Schools.
