Foley (musician)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Joe McCreary, known professionally as Foley, played bass guitar for Miles Davis from 1987 until 1991. Foley spent many years playing in Columbus, Ohio and his native Cincinnati, composing and recording his own music. Though Foley sometimes fulfills the role of a lead guitarist, he actually plays "lead bass." He tunes his instrument one octave higher than usual and uses a combination of effects pedals and his own unique phrasing to achieve a sound more closely associated with that of a lead guitar.[1] He even got the chance to play a guitar solo on Mint Condition's R&B Top 30 hit "So Fine".

Foley is featured on the Miles Davis albums Amandla, Dingo, Live Around The World, and The Complete Miles Davis at Montreux.

He released an album 7 Years Ago...Directions In Smart-Alec Musicin 1993. The album featured the moderate hit "If It's Positive". The song (and it's video) features guest appearances from Speech and Aerle Taree (of Arrested Development). The video also had a good rotation in airplay.
