FolderShare is a free to use Microsoft application designed to synchronize folders between and allow remote access to files stored on Windows and Mac OS X based computers. Microsoft bought FolderShare from ByteTaxi Inc on November 3 2005, and made it a part of their Windows Live range of services. It is currently in beta.

PowerFolder is a possible alternative. The basic version is open source, the Pro version adds encrypted transfers and a web interface, and is proprietory.
