Until the early 1990s, Egypt had only 4 FM stations. The number increased to 6 by the end of the decade. Starting the year 2000, stations moving from the AM band and the introduction of private stations raised the number to 10 stations as of 2006.

Good News for me acquired the first license for a private FM Radio broadcasting in Egypt, launching 2 stations, the Negoom FM and English music Nile FM that has british anchorpersons and DJs.

3 FM Radio Channels operate in Sharm EL Sheikh by the American command of the emergency forces overseeing the borders between Egypt and Israel. 2 of them are army stations and the third is a news station.
