[edit] Plot

I've cleaned up the language, and added the following (after the sentence about the ambiguous ending):

In spite of Hu Fei's desire for family revenge, he is also in awe of the heroic demeanours of Miao Ren Fung. This internal conflict afflicting Hu Fei questions the traditionally unquestionable matter of family honour, especially when it is in conflict with heroic and chivalrous properties.

There is a reason why the ending was left ambiguous. I believe one factor that contributed to Jinyong's success is that he does not write about revenge just for the sake of revenge. When revenge clashes with heroism, this previously unquestionable tenet of "never share the same sky with your parents' killer" (父仇不共戴天) is called into question. This conflict is certainly (but by no means exclusively) manifested in Hu Fei and Miao Ren Fung's duel. Not to mention Hu Fei's own romantic interests with 苗若兰.--Alexio 11:08, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
