Fly Records

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fly Records was a record label established in 1970 by David Platz. It became quickly popular when producers Denny Cordell and Tony Visconti moved their artists from Regal Zonophone Records to Fly. In this way Joe Cocker, The Move, Procol Harum and Marc Bolan all were (briefly) distributed by Fly, and John Kongos also gave the label two top five hits in 1971. In 1973 Cube Records was acquired by Fly.

Most of Fly's vinyl releases had center labels that were hand-lettered by Roger Dean. Some of the single labels were printed on either pale lilac or bright pink paper, part of the stock they had acquired from the Immediate label, which had gone into liquidation at the end of 1969.

Both Fly and Cube Records are still regularly repackaged.
