The flumph is a monster found in the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy roleplaying game. It is commonly considered the most ridiculous creature ever created for the D&D game. Many players are extremely fond of it, and the idea of a flumph paladin is often referenced.[citation needed]

Flumphs are sentient, and are the only Lawful Good creatures in the original Fiend Folio.

Flumphs' favored class in the 3.x edition D&D, according to the adventure "Box of Flumph," is sorcerer.

[edit] Physical description

A flumph resembles a levitating disk, with eyestalks on top and tentacles on the bottom. If flipped onto its back it is completely helpless.

[edit] Publishing history

Flumphs were first introduced in the Fiend Folio monster sourcebook for D&D 1st Edition, and were updated and much improved for D&D 2nd Edition rules in the Monstrous Compendium Annual Vol. 2 and were added to D&D 3rd Edition in the Tome of Horrors from Necromancer Games along with a bunch of monsters from earlier editions that were not in the 3E Monster Manual. In Dungeon magazine #118, the flumph was added to the array of 3.5 official monsters in "Box of Flumph," an adventure by Tim Hitchcock.

[edit] Flumphs in other media

Flumphs have been featured in the comic strip The Order of the Stick, usually suffering some comical calamity, such as serving to cushion the landing of falling characters.
