[edit] Prod removed

Please do some elementary research before adding prod tags, and it is recommended you inform the creator of the page which according to your conributions you have failed to do.

A quick search on findarticles returns many sources, and The Guardian also returns sources. One Night In Hackney 13:40, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Someone's name in the newpaper does not make them notable. Astrotrain 13:53, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Proposed merge

Given that all four members have the same boilerplate article, I propose they are all merged into one all-encompassing article, such as Florida Four. One Night In Hackney 13:47, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

  • Propose merging to a Arms smuggling by the IRA page to cover all smuggling activities rather than this minor one. Astrotrain 13:52, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
The level of press coverage clearly shows it isn't minor. Please don't let your well documented anti-IRA bias interfere with editorial decisions. Thanks. One Night In Hackney 14:04, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
I don't have an anti-IRA bias. I am commenting on the notability of these people- they appear to be simple smugglers and could be noted in a more detailed IRA arms article rather than a small unreferenced stub. Astrotrain 14:55, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
If they are notable enough for their own articles they can be created at a later date, that isn't a problem. One Night In HackneyIRA 14:21, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Good point. As long as the edit histories are not lost.--Vintagekits 14:27, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
With reply to the out of place comment by Astrotrain, the article is sourced - [1] [2] [3] [4] [5], and as evidenced above there are ample more sources available. One Night In HackneyIRA 15:05, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for notifying me about the discussion - I think that this is productive dialogue. I see merit in merging them into one article on "Florida Four". I think the case was noteworthy and warrants its own page (instead of merged into a larger article). I think the merged page ("Florida Four..."?) would be linked to the larger arms smuggling page. That's my $0.02. Thanks, Hu Gadarn 15:45, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Can I just point out that although he was acting in good faith, Vintagekits can't just copy and paste the text of one article into a new Florida Four article like he has done, that messes up the GDFL. I'll request a speedy deletion for the new page until this is settled. One Night In HackneyIRA 15:55, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Oooops! Sorry, I just thought I would give us something to merge it into.--Vintagekits 17:35, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
No problem. We'd merge all the articles into this one, then move it to Florida Four to preserve the history, what you did prevented that from happening. One Night In HackneyIRA 17:46, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
What I was thinking was start a new article and then if/when we merge we could redirect these "name" pages to the new artcile so we wouldnt lose the histories. Thats what happened to Declan Arthurs et al.--Vintagekits 17:51, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
I think we could merge all the info into Provisional IRA arms importation, as per Astrotrain. As IRA arms shipments went, this was minor enough, although it caused a bit of a political storm at the time, given that Sinn Fein and the IRA was supposed to have signed up the Belfast Agreement.Jdorney 10:40, 2 March 2007 (UTC)
Agree with Dorney here - merge with the main article Weggie 15:47, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
Its a bit late now sinces we have merged them here! For the record altough I have supported a merger to this article I wouldn't support a further merger. regards--Vintagekits 15:57, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Merged

As there's clear consensus the articles need to be merged into a single article in some form I've gone ahead and merged the other three. I still need to re-jig this article slightly before moving it to Florida Four. However, I have not ruled out the possibility of merging it into Provisional IRA arms importation at a later date. Given the large amount of possible source material, I think it's best to come back to this in a couple of months to see if the article can be significantly expanded. where are we up to with this?--Vintagekits 10:50, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
