Flowery Field

Flowery Field is an area of Hyde, Greater Manchester within the traditional county of Cheshire.

It is a mainly residential area once dominated by Ashton Brothers Textile Mill.

The area is home to Flowery Field Cricket Club, one of the foremost amateur clubs in the Tame valley. They were champions of the Saddleworth and District Cricket League in 2003 and moved into the Lancashire County League for 2004. Their professional, for the 2005 season, is Damien Eyre. An early member and very young player for Flowery Field Cricket Club was Warren Bradley who later played football for Manchester United and scored in the F.A. Cup.

There are many houses around flowery field, at the moment there is around 1200 people living in the area which is just short of 3 kilometers. most of the housing is council and there is around 360 council houses in the area. most people opt to live around here in a council house because of the peace (you will find below that there is anti-social behavior).

Flowery Field was the original location of Flowery Field Infant School and Flowery Field Junior School, where Melvyn Bowler, the famous counsellor and therapist, received his early education. Hyde technology school is also located in this area and is a secondary school with very high grades. with 72% of the class of 2005 getting 5 or more A* - C grades.

Flowery Field Train Station is on the famous Woodhead line from Manchester Piccadilly station to Sheffield. This line used to operate through the Woodhead Tunnel. The Woodhead tunnel has been closed for more than 20 years and now carries gas and electricity cables through. Flowery Field is reguarded by its operator Northern Rail as the most troubled station on their network (which handles around 350 stations across the entire north of england) and has a separate incident book for that section of line.


There is also another Station called Hyde North which is in the same area. Hyde North is a station wich accommodates the Manchester Piccadilly to rose hill marple line.

Bus Services Include:

330 Stockport to Ashton Via Hyde and Woodley. This sevice is run by Stagecoach Manchester and operates every 8 mins each way 7am - 9pm monday to saturday and every 15 mins each way on sundays and evenings past 9pm.

343 Runs frome Hyde to Stalybridge and Oldham via Dukinfield. this service is run by first bus manchester and operates every 30mins each way everyday from 6am - 10pm.
