Flower, Sun, and Rain is a video game developed by Goichi Suda for Grasshopper Manufacture. The game was only released in Japan on the PlayStation 2 system.

[edit] Premise

Sumio Mondo is a man making a living as an assassin. He arrives on the resort island of Lospas and takes a room at the F.S.R. hotel after being tasked with detecting and defusing a time bomb, planted on a plane which is soon to leave the island's only airport.

On the way to the airport however, Sumio encounteres other hotel guests and island residents requesting his help with various problems, including searching for missing items. While Sumio is distracted by them, the airplane with the bomb on board takes off and explodes, crashing into the island.

Next morning, however, Sumio awakens in his hotel room and discovers that something strange has happened. He has not even headed to the airport yet and the airplane explosion and crash have not happened yet, either. Sumio attempts to head to the airport to prevent the explosion. Again, however, other people who need his help appear, distracting him long enough to lead to a repeat of the previous days explosion, and Sumio once again awakens in his hotel room before any of the days events have taken place. As the same fateful day repeats itself over and over, Sumio finds his hotel room becomes more and more warped and twisted, reflecting the fact that he is slowly losing his mind from the repetition. Can he solve the islanders problems and prevent the explosion before he goes totally insane?

[edit] Gameplay

Player controls Sumio Mondo, the “assassin”, to seek the people’s something on and on. Sumio uses a suitcase-shaped versatile instrument named “Katherine” to solve the mysteries about the people’s something. Sumio can crack any secret code by using Katherine with a “Dial” for inputting number and a plug compatible to any specifications around the world. Player will discover some hints from words of people and a tour guide book of Lospas Island and input right numbers to crack the codes and find the people’s something. Luxurious atmosphere of the southern island resort and the hotel, waves of unexpected mysteries, and witty but poisonous characters’ lines are characteristic.

This game consists of 18 scenarios. In the last half of the game, a part of its storyline links up with “The Silver Case” and it brought more interests. For BGM through the game, we adopted ambient arranged classics of Bach, Debussy, Gershwin, Satie, and etc. and they are high in quality that could be used in a lounge in an existing hotel. The lyric of its theme song “F.S.R.-For You-“ of the promotional video(PV) clip on the game disc is written by Goichi Suda who is the director of this game. In the PV, Mia Murano who is a female actor is performing in real-life film as Toriko, the female lead in the game. The tour guide book players use to solve the mysteries in the game is actually published as “’Flower, Sun, and Rain’ Official Fan Book + Guide Book” by Sony Magazines Inc.
