Florida State Road 867

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A 10-mile-long street paralleling the Caloosahatchee River between Fort Myers and Iona, State Road 867 is locally known as McGregor Boulevard. The southern terminus is an intersection with San Carlos Boulevard (State Road 865) – McGregor Boulevard continues southwest toward Sanibel Island as County Road 867 and County Road 869. The northern terminus was once in downtown Fort Myers at an intersection with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard (State Road 82) and Cleveland Avenue (U.S. Highway 41-State Road 45) just south of the approach of the Caloosahatchee Bridge and the western end of State Road 80-U.S. Highway 41 Business. SR 867 now ends at County Road 884 at the Midpoint Memorial Bridge.[1]

Until the late 1990s, State Road 867 actually continued southwestward, crossing San Carlos Bay on the toll Sanibel-Captiva Bridge, following Periwinkle Way and Sanibel-Captiva Road along the length of Sanibel Island before terminating at Captiva, on Captiva Island. In addition to the hotels and inns of the popular tourist resorts of Sanibel and Captiva Islands, the former segment of SR 867 forms the southern boundary of the J.N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge and ventures close to Pine Island National Wildlife Refuge.
