Florida State Road 844

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One of the shortest highways numbered by the Florida Department of Transportation, State Road 844 is a 0.9-mile-long east-west street connecting North Federal Highway (U.S. Route 1-SR 5) and Ocean Boulevard (SR A1A) in Pompano Beach. Locally known as NE 14th Street Causeway, SR 844 passes through a suburban residential area east of Pompano Beach Airpark, Pompano Beach Municipal Golf Course, and Pompano Citi Centre Mall before crossing the Intracoastal Waterway and terminating on Ocean Boulevard near the beach on the Atlantic Ocean. Near the eastern terminus are two local parks: Alsdorf Park (on the western bank of the Intracoastal Waterway) and North Ocean Park (on SR A1A one block north of SR 844 and on the Atlantic shore).

State Road 844 is one of only two east-west Florida State Roads in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metropolitan area that do not intersect, pass over, or pass under an expressway (the other is SR 9336, which provides a primary access into Everglades National Park in Miami-Dade County).
