Florida Judicial Nominating Commission
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Florida Judicial Nominating Commission is responsible for providing the Florida Governor with a list of possible appointments to the Florida Supreme Court and the five Florida District Courts of Appeal. It is required under Article V of the Florida Constitution.
The Commission is composed of nine persons appointed by the Governor. Four members are lawyers appointed from lists of nominees submitted by The Florida Bar. Of the remaining five members, at least two must be lawyers. Members must be residents of the jurisdiction the commission serves. In making the appointments, the governor is to ensure that, to the extent possible, the membership of each commission reflects the racial, ethnic, and gender diversity and geographic distribution of the relevant jurisdiction. Members serve four-year terms. No member of the commission may be a member of the judiciary. Members are also ineligible for consecutive reappointment, so the composition of the commission changes frequently.
