The Floo network is a web ring of several major Harry Potter fansites.
It was created on June 6, 2003, and was at first composed of 4 sites:
- The Leaky Cauldron, for news
- The Harry Potter Lexicon, an encyclopedia about Harry Potter
- Accio Quote, which archives and indexes all of J.K. Rowling's interviews
- The Hogwarts Galleries, for images
On 5 October 2004, they were joined by the HBP FAQ, a new site designed mainly by The Leaky Cauldron's staff, which listed "Everything There is to Know about Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (If You're not J.K. Rowling)". The last update to this site was two weeks before the release of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which happened on 16 July 2005.
On December 18, 2004, Madam Scoop's Index to J.K. Rowling Interviews was added to the web ring. It catalogs all the important information from J.K. Rowling's interview by character, theme, item, etc. Madam Scoop and Quick Quotes Quill have since then been managed by the same team.
On 5 April 2005, The Cauldron Shop, an online shop for Harry Potter-related merchandise, was launched. Its profits help pay for the maintenance of all the Floo Network sites.
On 4 October 2006, Madam Scoop and the Quick Quote Quill were combined and renamed Accio Quote!. The combined site archives and indexes over 300 articles and interviews of author J.K. Rowling.
The Floo Network has its own page, maintained by Belinda Hobbs of the Harry Potter Lexicon. It is updated roughly monthly, and contains birthdays of characters and cast and crew members, an almanac including the weather in Hogwarts and Diagon Alley, trivia, games and recipes.
