Flint North
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Flint North is a General Motors automobile engine and components plant located at Stewart Avenue exit of I-475 in Flint, Michigan . The plant consists of several different factories that combine to make the Flint North Powertrain plant. The 4,000,000 square foot plant was opened in 1905 as part of the Buick Motor Company and is the last part of Buick City still standing. The engine plant (Factory 36) portion of Flint North Powertrain is slated to close in June of 2008. It is famous for building the GM 3800 engine, one of the longest-produced automobile engines in history. The remaining factories (05, 10 and 81) which compose the components producing buildings of the plant, have no estimated close date at this time. Flint North Powertrain is supported by UAW Local 599 and its President, Bill Jordan and Chairman Floyd Straley.
