English translation of the original figure legend from 1882: Salivary gland cell from Chironimus spec., larvae. Fresh, with 1 per cent formic acid. Structure of the cell substance. BALBIANI ball of threads in the nucleus, turns drawn only as far as followable; banding of the thread, which is presented dark, as after staining. |
