FLE
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
An FLE (French: Français langue étrangère or "French as a foreign language") tests non-francophones' knowledge of French. The equivalent in the Anglophone world is the TOEFL. It is distinguished from FSL (Français langue seconde or "French as a second language"). The FSL test is used to measure language proficiency of prospective immigrants to francophone countries, similar to the ESL for prospective immigrants to anglophone countries. The FLE, however, is used to test French-language proficiency of prospective entrants to the labour force, tourists and for personal use. FLE also stands for foreign literary essay.
See English language learning and teaching for equivalent tests for English-language equivalents for these circumstances.
