Flashback is a 1990 film starring Dennis Hopper and Kiefer Sutherland.

[edit] Plot

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

Hopper plays Huey Walker, a hippie and a former New Left radical who has been on the run from the law for 20 years for something he did not do, disconnecting Spiro Agnew's train car in Spokane, Washington. Sutherland plays John Buckner, the FBI agent who is to transport Huey Walker back to Spokane for trial. (Later in the movie, it is revealed that Buckner was raised on a communal farm and that his real given name is Free). They take the railroad out of Oakland, California to Spokane since the airport is fogged in. A scheduled stopover in the fictional town of Marsden, Oregon near Portland leads to a number of misadventures and forces both Walker and Buckner to confront their own pasts.

Spoilers end here.

[edit] Soundtrack

The movie produced a fairly popular soundtrack made up of a mix of 60's music & 80's Alternative music. The highlight is the theme song "Free", which is only available on this soundtrack; it was never included in any Big Audio Dynamite collection. (A remake of the song, titled "Kickin' In", was later recorded by Big Audio Dynamite II and included on the Kool-Aid album.)
