Fjends municipality

Fjends municipality is a municipality (Danish, kommune) in Viborg County on the Jutland peninsula in northern Denmark. The municipality covers an area of 236 km², and has a total population of 8,152 (2005). Its mayor is Svend Aage Jensen, a member of the Venstre (Liberal Party) political party.

The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Stoholm.

Neighboring municipalities are Viborg to the east, Skive to the north, Vinderup and Aulum-Haderup to the west, and Karup to the south.

By January 1, 2007 Fjends municipality will cease to exist, as the result of Kommunalreformen ("The Municipality Reform" of 2007). It will be merged, with Bjerringbro, Karup, Møldrup, Tjele, and Viborg municipalities to form an enlarged Viborg municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 1,390 km² and a total population of 88,945 (2005). The municipality will belong to the new Region Midtjylland ("Mid-Jutland Region").
