Fizzle

The term Fizzle is used in the following contexts:

  • When an event starts promisingly, but stalls and ends shortly afterwards, it is said to "fizzle out."
  • When any explosive fails to detonate, or detonates less successfully than intended. Especially, an unexpectedly low yield from the detonation of a nuclear weapon. This happens when the weapon comes apart and stops the nuclear reactions before the planned fraction of the nuclear fuels have been consumed. See also critical mass.
  • In collectible card games, this is when a card effect is negated as a result of an opponent's actions or a change in game state.
  • A term used in the MMORPG EverQuest when an attempted spellcast fails, using up a portion of the spells cost.
  • A synonym for -izzle, a language pattern used in hip-hop slang
  • also a FIZZLE can be used as an adjective to describe a person who is a failure at any given task.

Also Fizzle is the name of an extension for Mozilla Firefox web browser.
