[edit] IMPROVEMENTS NEEDED FOR WP:GA

(review as of 05:08, 17 June 2006 (UTC))

This article is well on its way to becoming a great article. A look at its history shows that the editors have taken great care in trying (and mostly succeeding) in building a thorough and NPOV article. Some attention by a few experts and this article will be ready for Good Article. Please re-nominate it after the following issues have been addressed.Davodd 05:08, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

I'm confused - thought we'd addressed all the below? -plange 20:47, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Well written

  • FAILED. prose reads like a public relations fluff piece or a fansite. This is an encyclopedia, not a fan guide. Examples of poor writing (or cliche, hyperbole):
  1. "of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel fame."
  2. Use of present tense instead of past tense such as: "visual style also differs,"
I think we've done this, what do you guys think? -plange 23:35, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Factually Accurate

  • Failed. Lack of citations for opinion/probable original research. Refer to WP:CITE
    • Further improve: Many claims of fact/opinion are uncited, therefore accuracy is unverifiable.

Broad Coverage

  • Passed. Good job.

NPOV

  • Failed. Uncited opinion (the mysterious "they" or the ambiguous "some fans" doesn't count as a valid cite) is the same as a NPOV violation.

Stable

  • Failed.
    • Otherwise stable article has and entire section Production with an expand tag. The rest of the prose just needs minor polishing to be more encyclopedic.

Appropriate Images

  • Failed. (Almost there, though)
    • Images are of fine quality. The captions are fansite; not encyclopedic.
  1. Image:Ff firefly.jpg - caption needs context what is the picture, what is the planet, what is the ship doing?
  2. Image:FireflyPoster.jpg - where' was this ad published? When?
Does anyone know the answer to this? -plange 23:34, 28 June 2006 (UTC)
  1. Image:Firefly cast.jpg - This caption is right from a fansite. The picture is of actors, who should be named. Is it a publicity shot? a shot on the set?
  2. Image:Firefly box.jpg - needs a caption. What is it? Which version does it depict?

Real-world context for articles dealing with fiction * Failed. **The article is close, but there are too many instances of unencyclopedic writing style that is more fansite and less academic. The topic needs to be approached with the eye of an anthropologist - this topic is a snapshot in time of 2002 and 2003 that sparked a short-lived global phenomenon (and continuing fan base). That context needs to be clear. As it is written, the honestly ignorant may become confused by what is fact and what is fiction. It needs to be clear by verb tense that the show is no longer in production.
