First League of the Republika Srpska

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Prva liga Republike Srpske or Прва лига Републике Српске (First league of the Republika Srpska) is a second level football competition in Bosnia-Herzegovina. Since there were three different championships in country, organized on ethnical principles, Prva liga Republike Srpske was top flight in Republika Srpska before 2002. However, champions were not recognized by UEFA. In 2002, top clubs from Republika Srpska joined Premijer liga Bosne i Hercegovine and Prva liga was kept as one of two second level divisions.

League has 16 teams, each playing the other 15 two times (home and away). League champion is promoted to Premijer liga at the end of the season, and the bottom clubs are relegated to lower leagues. Number of relegated teams depends on how many clubs are entering the league. That will be the winners of three third level leagues and clubs relegated from Premijer liga. So, sometimes two clubs will be relegated, and sometimes three or four.
