First Army (Yugoslavia)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Yugoslavian First Army was the first field army of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia during World War II.
Germany invaded Yugoslavia on April 6, 1941, following a revolution that overthrew the country's pro-fascist government. Italy, Hungary, and Bulgaria soon joined the invasion.
Yugoslavia quickly mobilized its forces into an armed forces of some 340,000 men. The Yugoslav Royal Army comprised of six field armies, which were the First, Third, Fourth, Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Armies.
The First Army was to guard the eastern border together with the Sixth Army. However, the eastern border had not yet come under serious attack, and so the First Army did not see much action against the Axis forces. Eleven days after the German invasion, Yugoslavia fell.
