Firefly is a new "no frills"[1] airline which will begin operations on April 2, 2007. It claims as the first community airlines in Malaysia. The airline is a subsidiary of Malaysia Airlines and utilize the Penang International Airport as a base of operations and hub.

[edit] Management and operation
Even though Firefly is 100% owned by Malaysia Airlines, it has a separate management, which is by FlyFirefly Sdn.Bhd. The focus of Firefly is to give a community based services particularly in the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle. It will also complement the routes not already be flown by Malaysia Airlines.

Firefly's will fly from Penang to the domestic destinations of Langkawi, Kota Bharu, Kuala Terengganu and Kuantan 14 times weekly as well as to Koh Samui and Phuket in Thailand 7 times weekly. The city of Medan in Indonesia has also been earmarked as a future destination. Firefly will start operations with two 50-seater Fokker 50 planes.
