Fionnuala Sweeney

Fionnuala Sweeney is an Irish anchorwoman and reporter for CNN International. She is based in London, where she anchors World News Europe and International Correspondents.

She frequently reports from the Middle East as well. Her most recent notable assignment there was during the hospitalization of Ariel Sharon.

Sweeney joined CNN in 1993 after five years at RTÉ. She also hosted the 1993 Eurovision Song Contest, which was seen by 350 million people. She worked as a writer and anchor at CNN International headquarters in Atlanta before becoming a full-time anchor and re-basing to London.

Born in Belfast, Sweeney studied at University College, Dublin, graduating with a bachelor's degree in English and history and a higher degree in education.

Fionnuala is originally from Northern Ireland and lived there with her family until she was 12 when they moved to Dublin in the 70's.
