Talk:Final Fantasy VI: The Interactive CG Game

[edit] Hearsay
As far as I know, there's no reliable, citable evidence that this demo was ever anything more than it appears to be: a demonstration of what Square could do with its shiny new SGI workstations circa 1996. The persistent rumor that it was a serious demo for an N64 Final Fantasy title is pretty much baseless speculation. Even if Final Fantasy VII had been produced for the console, it was extremely unlikely that it would star Terra, Locke, and Shadow, and it's arguably even less likely that it would have been controlled via mouse, as the system didn't have one. It's just as likely that the demo was just so that Square could get their feet wet with 3D rendering, and even though they didn't produce any games for the N64, they did do a lot of 3D rendering in the following years. If anyone has a source we can cite that it was a N64-specific venture, so be it, but until then, let's not spread rumor as fact. – Seancdaug 12:43, August 26, 2005 (UTC)
- Yep, agreed. I blame coffee with too much sugar for not being able to convey my rational thoughts and just editing pre-written text. =) --Wwwwolf 13:13, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Really Terra?
Even if everyone seems to keep saying that, is that really supposed to be Terra? Looks more like Celes to me. Terra has green hair and Celes is blonde. --Wwwwolf 13:13, 26 August 2005 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure it's Terra, based on the original Yoshitaka Amano character designs (where she was in fact a blonde). The outfit she's wearing looks nothing like anything worn by Celes in the game, which is probably a stronger identifier. Plus, she's got that ribbon-thing in hair, whereas Celes's hair is straight and unadorned. – Seancdaug 17:15, August 26, 2005 (UTC)
[edit] Two versions?
The demo runs on SGI ONYX workstations, but is there a version that runs on actual N64 based hardware? I believe the SGI version uses better models and textures, while the N64 version uses blocky models and simple textures with no lighting effects. I'm not sure if there are actually two different versions, one SGI and one N64, this could just be bad memory. I just remember one video looking a lot better than the capabilities of the N64.
I think you're quite right that there could be two versions. I have an Australian Nintendo magazine (Nintendo Magazine System) that has screen shots from circa 1995, which are much lighter, the characters are more blocky, and it states that it was shown at Nintendo Spaceworld. It never stated that it was a game in development though, mearly a tech demo to demonstrate the Ultra64.
