From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Finlux was a Finnish corporation that made various types of consumer electronic related products, from plasma televisions to DVD players. The company was formed in 1975 by a consortium headed by Dr. Tuomo Suntola. The company stayed independent for 16 years but because of the failings in the Soviet Union in 1991, the company got taken over by Planar in that same year. Before getting taken over, they developed film electroluminescence technology which would be an ideal flat panel display.

In the beginning of the 2000s Finlux has had serious troubles with their product line, which was based on CRT televisions. The market had svung to flat panel televisions and Finlux failed to switch in time. With 50 million euros in debt, the company filed for bankruptcy in September, 2005.
