Fingerlakes Mall
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fingerlakes Mall is an enclosed shopping mall located in the outskirts of Auburn, New York, featuring approximately 70 stores, as well as a movie theater and food court.
[edit] History
Opened by the Pyramid corporation in 1980, the 406,000 sf Fingerlakes Mall featured four anchors: Chappell's, JCPenney, Kmart, and Sears, as well as a theater and a roller skating rink. The mall continued to hold its own throughout the 1990s, although it started to falter in the late 1990s due to increased competition from shopping centers in nearby Syracuse. Chappell's moved to Camillus in 1994, and Kmart closed a year later. By 2000, Peebles would briefly occupy the former Chappell's before closing, which later became Manhattan 101 before closing again, just as Sears moved to the former Kmart and abandoned the old Sears store. GG&A would acquire the mall in 1999, and under their ownership and under Jones Lang LaSalle's management, Bass Pro Shops replaced the former Sears location, and Steve & Barry's opened in the former Manhattan 101. While the mall still has a few vacancies, it has rebounded considerably with the addition of Bass Pro Shops. The mall again changed hands in 2006.
