Call of Duty: Finest Hour is a first-person shooter for the Xbox, PlayStation 2 and GameCube video game consoles. This wargame simulates the infantry and combined arms warfare of World War II. It is published by Activision and developed by Spark Unlimited. Although it is based on the original Call of Duty for the PC, it has a completely different storyline. In the spirit of previous Call of Duty games, it features six different perspectives with stories and battles based on real world events from soldiers on each side of the allied campaign (US, British, and Soviet). Call of Duty: Finest Hour was released on November 16, 2004 in North America. It was followed up by a sequel, Call of Duty 2: Big Red One, in 2005.
The game's music was composed by Michael Giacchino who previously worked on the original Call of Duty and the Medal of Honor franchise. AC/DC singer Brian Johnson provides the voice of the British commander.

After fighting through the ruined city he meets Tanya Pavelonva, a sniper who is also fighting in the city. After the death of Sokolov's guide Sgt. Puskov, Alexsandr joins Tanya and becomes her spotter.
Tanya Pavelonva Tanya was an ordinary girl whose family was ambushed by the Germans, after her parents were killed she picked up a fallen comrades sniper rifle and killed 4 Germans. This earned her recognition from the Soviet commanders who saw her skill useful for the situation in Stalingrad. There she met Alexsandr Sokolov who became her spotter. Later on in the game Tanya is thought killed along with Alexsandr by a Panzer which fires at the building they're standing in, although she is only wounded and is seen later in the level on a stretcher, having only been injured. (Although Alexsandr is strong enough to carry her back on a stretcher to the HQ)
Nikolai Badanov Nikoli is an engineer who left his family in the care of his parents and joined the Red Army, he was assigned to a tank crew and because of his aggressivness he is given a crew of his own. By playing Lt.Nikoli the player gets to drive a T-34 tank through Stalingrad and in Op. Little Saturn to destroy a German airfield. Nikoli is later made a Major for his bravery.
Edward Carlyle A British chemistry teacher, Carlyle joined the British army as a commando and becomes a part of the PPA (Polski's private army). As Carlyle, the player takes part in Commando raids in Africa against the desert fox (Rommel).
Chuck Walker A member of the American first army Big Red One. Walker took part on the D-Day Assault. After, he was assigned to help capture Aachen, the first Major German city to fall. As Walker, the player takes part in missions with Walker's team and faithful friend corporal Benny Church (who later becomes a sergeant) to defeat pockets of remaining German resistance. Later on Walker is promoted to Lt. for his services during the capture of Aachen. In the final game missions the player controls Walker once again to capture the final bridge across the Rhine at Remagen.
Sam Rivers Sgt. Sam Rivers is an African American who leads a small tank battalion. Because of the bravery of River and the rest of his crew (who are also African Americans) he was promoted to Sgt. His single mission allows the player to operate an Allied Sherman to help back up the Americans during the German assault on Bastogne. He is later seen in Last Bridge standing level and talks to Chuck Walker
[edit] Overview
In Call of Duty: Finest Hour, the player first starts of as Russian Aleksandr Sokolov who fights through Stalingrad and meets Tanya Pavelonva, a hard willed sniper. Sokolov becomes Pavelovna's spotter as the two hold up the German advance. The player then switches to Pavelonva and helps defend a small factory harbouring a lone T-34 after navigating through German infested sewers. After defending the factory a tank crew led by Nikolai Badanov arrive to rescue the tank just as a Panzer advances on the factory. After the tank crew, Tanya and Aleksandr escape the player next assumes Nikolai. After driving through the remains of Red-Square Nikolai stops at a HQ and recieves orders to deliver a radio to a couple of spotters. The spotters radio had broken down and the General wasn't recieving co-ordinates of German armour to destroy with Katushya rockets. After Nikolai drives the tank to the train station where the spotters are, he and his crew fight through the station and deliver the radio. Afterwards Nikolai and his crew are involved in the Russian assault on a German airfield codnamed Op. Little Saturn. After fighting through the heavily defended area Nikolai and other T-34s proceed to the airstrip to destroy remaining German planes and bombers. After destroying the airfield they meet up with more Russians to assault the command centre. After breaking in Nikoli and his men find German documents and hurry to deliver them to their superiors.
After the Russia campaign the player proceeds to the British one. Edward Carlyle is the lone character used as the player embarks on two night-time raids in Africa to destroy a fuel depot. The team led by Sgt. Starkey not only manage to destroy the depot, but also on the way after they destroy a power generator depriving the Germans of power and a communications cable. After the raid Starkey and Carlyle take part on a fortress raid. To get there they take a dangerous jeep journey and Carlyle mans the gun. After destroying German resistance on the way, Carlyle and Starkey attempt to rescue Sgt. Dehart. After rescuing Dehart, he tells Carlyle that the Cartographer is being held prisoner. After rescuing the cartographer they meet up with Starkey and make their escape. The downside to the British campaign is that there are only four missions.
The American missions sees the player's control over Chuck Walker, an American veteran of D-Day and soldier of the American 1st Army. The first four missions concentrate on the capture of Aachen which having been complete, Walker and his friend Benny Church are promoted up the ranks. After capturing Aachen the story focuses on Sam Rivers, a young African American who has been made Sgt for his commitment and bravery. After being Rivers and succesfully helping fend off Germans in the assault of Bastogne, the player again returns to the now Lt. Walker. Walker's new mission is to infiltrate the German city of Remagen and scout the status of a bridge that is apparently still leading over the Rhine. After finding the bridge Walker teams up with Sgt. Rivers as he and his men protect River's tank group and escort them to the bridge. After reaching the bridge a huge hole in the ground prevents the tanks from moving on which means Walker and his squad have to capture the bridge alone. After crossing Walker mans an anti-air gun on top of a tower and fends of attacking Stukas. After holding of the arial threat, the triumphant American hangs the national flag over the tower and waves the tank column into Germany. The game ends here.
This game features many of the same weapons as featured in previous Call Of Duty games however this game includes the M3 Grease Gun, the Russian DPM LMG, a portable M1919A4 Browning .30 cal LMG (not featured in the original PC version but appears later in its expansion Call Of Duty: United Offensive), a portable version of the German MG42 and the G43 or K43 (also later appears in COD:UO). A Sten MK IIS (the silenced version of the Sten MK.II sub machine gun) was planned but was not included in the final game. A computerized graphic of it can be seen in the "Extras" section of the game under the "Making of II" sequence. Some weapons however will not always be accessible, many players have been unable to find the '03 Springfield sniper rifle with in the game and the M3 Grease Gun is only usuable during the tank mission of the American campaign. The portable M1919A4 Browning LMG can only be found in the 2nd last level of the game during the American campaign. The reloading process of each weapon is said to be disappointing; for instance, the Lee-Enfield rifle is incorrectly depicted by showing a detachable magazine; the rifle was actually loaded from the top with stripper clips. Although it was possible to remove the magazine, it was rarely used as a method for reloading the rifle.
