Fight Girls
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Fight Girls is an Oxygen original movie.
In this reality TV programming, seven women from all over the United States train with a Muay Thai instructor in Las Vegas in an effort to fight for a kickboxing championship. The seven competitors, all experienced fighters, train for six weeks. The group of seven women is narrowed down to three, and then those three receive the chance to go to Thailand to fight native Thai kickboxers in a competition for the championship.
Fight Girls is produced by Scott Messick and Tom Weber. The seven competitors are trained by Master Toddy.
Critical reaction to the show is mixed. Randee Dawn of the Hollywood Reporter says of the show, "A documentary [as opposed to a reality TV program] might have even explored the whiff of dilettantism hanging over the amateurs: To Thai women with limited career opportunities, Muay Thai is a way of life. For Americans, it's a means to opening a gym." [1] Gail Pennington of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch claims Fight Girls the pick of the night for Monday (the movie originally airing on Monday, August 7th, 2006), but notes, "Summer can't last forever," indicating that Fight Girls is merely the best of a lackluster evening.
