The Australian Army has definitely had two Field Marshals in its history: Sir Thomas Blamey and HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. It also appears that British Field Marshal William Birdwood, 1st Baron Birdwood may have been created a Field Marshal by Australia, although this is unclear.

One may as well type in "I heard a rumour about X, which I'm not sure about and haven't checked yet, but I'll put it in the article anyway" The best place is this discussion page until someone can say how many Australian Field Marshals there have been, and who they were. I have corrected this, from the Commonwealth Gazette and AMF Gradation List of Officers. It is made clear that Birdwood was given honorary rank.
