Fiddleneck.jpg (506 × 534 pixel, file size: 57 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

Fiddleneck, species not determined. Cropped from a photograph taken 24th April 2004 in Claremont Canyon Regional Preserve, Alameda County, California, by Stephen Lea.

If you can place this to a species, it would be a service to Wikipedia... but a somewhat unlikely achievement. The possibilities are Amsinckia lunaris, lycopsoides, menziesii, spectabilis, tesselata and vernicosa. My money is on A. tesselata, but I suspect you'd have to stand over the plant with a key in your hand to be sure.
