A fidola, similar to the fiddle is an up and coming new style in fiddle music. As a fiddle is tuned GDAE, the fidola is tuned as a viola, CGDA. Though currently primarily used by musicians who play by ear, some music is starting to be written for the fidola. Though not a completely new separate instrument, as a violin is played as fiddle, a viola is played as fidola.
