Festival RTP da Canção
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Festival RTP da Canção was the name given to the national festival, produced and broadcast by Rádio e Televisão de Portugal, to choose the Portuguese entry for the Eurovision Song Contest.
Over the years its popularity had been slipping, due to the fact that the Eurovision Song Contest was perceived by many as an old-fashioned music contest. In 2000, the festival was celebrated for the last time. However, the winner Liana did not participate in the Eurovision Song Contest 2000, because Portugal had been relegated due to its poor results in the preceding years.
In 2006 the Festival da Canção returned, with the victory of Nonstop.
