[edit] Racing car template

I've had a stab at a template for racing cars (see template:Racing car) to summarise the usual data. I've used the F1 templates as a starting point and applied it to the Brabham BT46 article. If anyone's got an interest in this, please have a look at the template and modify or suggest changes as appropriate. After a few people have had a go at it and we have something we're happy with we could start to use it more widely. Note that it's not meant to be specific to F1, by the way. Cheers. 4u1e 10:36, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Question of copyright infringement

Looking at the current version of the Ferrari 512 article and the version history, much of the article would seem to have been based on material that can be found on the 5.0 FERRARI 512S page on another site.

Large parts of the article would appear to have been copied directly from that site quite early during the construction of the page. While our articles on Wikipedia must based on reliable sources, we must also respect copyright of other publications, including other web sites. In fact, Wikipedia copyright policy, states that if the content of a page really is an infringement, that content should be either removed or rewritten.

To remove and replace copyrighted material would require a major rewrite, but not impossible to do in a reasonable period of time. I would suggest the following actions be taken (please note that I am referring to the current version of the article, not a later version which might already be fixed by the time you read this):

Introduction

This would appear to need no changes for copyright reasons. Other improvements are welcome.

Nomenclature

This seems o.k. too. No copyright problems that I'm aware of.

Ferrari 512 History

Needs major rewrite. Many sentences seem to be directly from the page above, with very minor wording changes - this can be rewritten to discuss aspects of the engine weight and cooling system, steel vs alloy chassis etc, without copying from the article.

25 Ferrari 512S built

Needs rewrite as above - in fact, do we really need all that chassis data at all - we don't have this for every racing car article?

The drivers of the 512S factory cars

Do we need this section - does an encyclopaedia article about the Ferrari 512, need to list how a certain driver died in a Grand Prix? Is that relevant to the page subject? Wouldn't a simple list of drivers and major and notable races competed in the 512, be sufficient for this page?

Footnotes and References

We need to introduce these to support statements made and allow others to check if Wikipedia policy is being followed.

Can other editors comment - and help rewrite the article?

I've just edited my comments above, as had I missed a section. --Xagent86 (Talk | contribs) 10:29, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
