Ferrocarril Trasandino Los Andes - Mendoza

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ferrocarril Trasandino Los Andes - Mendoza (Transandine Los Andes - Mendoza Railway) is a metre gauge mountain railway and rack railway from Los Andes to Mendoza, connecting the broad gauge (1676mm) railway networks of Chile and Argentina. The railway has been out of service since 1984, and had been partly dismantled. As of March 2006, both trans-Andean governments have agreed to refurbish the railway and make it functional by the year 2010, at an estimated collective cost of $460 million USD.[1] The rebuild will be adhesion only.
