Ferdinand Marian
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ferdinand Marian (August 14, 1902 – August 7, 1946) was an Austrian actor.
Marian was born in Vienna, then part of Austria-Hungary.
Marian's career was overshadowed by his appearance as the title character in Jud Süß, an infamous anti-Semitic German movie made in 1940 by Veit Harlan. This film, made under the supervision of Joseph Goebbels, is widely considered to be one of the most hateful depictions of Jews in film. Marian's depiction of the title character followed Nazi propaganda stereotypes of Jews having hooked noses and greasy hair. Marian first refused to act in the film, but was forced to accept when Goebbels threatened the safety of his stepson, who was half Jewish. [1]
Marian died in a road accident in 1946 in Bavaria.
