Ferazel's Wand
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Ferazel's Wand is an action game by Ben Spees with Ambrosia Software for Mac OS. Ferazel is a member of a race of creatures called Habnabits, tunnel-dwelling creatures skilled in magic. Long have they dwelled in peace, but now they are under assault from a horde of goblins, and there are whispers of a far more foul foe leading the goblins . . .
The game concentrates more on thinking than fighting enemies--even the bossfights are often a matter of logically figuring a foe's weakness. The later levels have an emphasis on trap-dodging(which can be annoying at times), and all levels contain a lot of secret passages and hidden items you have to look hard for. It's sort of an RPG, but not in the traditional sense, inasmuch as you fight arcade-style, and you gain in power by finding magical crystals hidden off the beaten path.
This game was never very popular, but it had and still has a cult of fans. Some of them even created unauthorized sequels and expansions.
Ben Spees reportedly tried to make a sequel without Ambrosia, but Ambrosia held the copyrights and wouldn't let him. At the time of this writing, he is making a new game, called Refazel in rather a wink-wink manner.
