It's not entirely accurate to say: 'Fender has sporadically reissued the Jazzmaster during the last 20 years.'

Fender Japan reissued the Jazzmaster from 1986 and this model has constantly been in production since then. However, it is accurate to say that the Japanese-made reissues have been 'sporadically availiable' outside Japan. On release they were on sale in the US, UK and Australia (and, I assume, other territories); they then 'disappeared' for a few years, although they were availiable in Australia in the mid 90s and in the UK on and off.

Fender US issued a more accurate Jazzmaster in its vintage series in 1999; at about the same time the Japanese models were re-named 'Crafted in Japan'.

The Japanese models are now widely availiable through eBay and other internet sources. The 'Crafted in Japan' series in cludes a number of variants not availiable in the US reissue series - such as a 'post-CBS' block/bound neck; an Antigua finish; and matching headstocks on metallic colours.
