Fell Township, Pennsylvania

Fell Township is a township in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,331 at the 2000 census.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the township has a total area of 39.8 km² (15.4 mi²). 39.6 km² (15.3 mi²) of it is land and 0.2 km² (0.1 mi²) of it (0.52%) is water.

As of the census2 of 2000, there were 2,331 people, 934 households, and 617 families residing in the township. The population density was 58.9/km² (152.5/mi²). There were 1,031 housing units at an average density of 26.1/km² (67.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the township was 98.37% White, 0.34% African American, 0.04% Native American, 0.26% Asian, 0.47% from other races, and 0.51% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.77% of the population.

There were 934 households out of which 24.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 51.2% were married couples living together, 10.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 33.9% were non-families. 32.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 18.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.31 and the average family size was 2.89.

In the township the population was spread out with 18.4% under the age of 18, 5.7% from 18 to 24, 25.7% from 25 to 44, 21.6% from 45 to 64, and 28.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 45 years. For every 100 females there were 88.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 83.7 males.

The median income for a household in the township was $31,146, and the median income for a family was $37,900. Males had a median income of $31,000 versus $22,201 for females. The per capita income for the township was $16,260. About 7.6% of families and 13.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 17.2% of those under age 18 and 19.3% of those age 65 or over.
